RTM the official broadcaster for Suzuki Cup

KUALA LUMPUR, (Bernama) - Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) was appointed as the official broadcaster for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 to be held in Malaysia and Thailand.

RTM's Director-General of Broadcasting Datuk Norhyati Ismail said the first match of the AFF Suzuki Cup on Saturday (Nov 24) between Thailand and the Philippines in Group A would be telecast live at 9pm through TV1 while the delayed telecast of the match between Vietnam and Myanmar would be aired at 1am on Nov 25.

"Since RTM is the official broadcaster of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012, we promise to offer the viewers the best action in the competition. There will also be informative programmes aired.

"We took the initiative to become the official broadcaster to inject a continuous support for the national team in its quest to qualify for the final and go on to retain the cup," he told reporters after the official announcement was made at Angkasapuri here today.

She added that TV1 will air the Group B match between Malaysia and Singapore on Sunday starting 8.40pm while the delayed telecast of the match between Laos and Indonesia comes on at 1am on Nov 26.

For the record, RTM had telecast the semifinals and final of the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup and watched by 3.8 million people.

Don't air porn songs, West Java radio, TV told

JAKARTA: All radio and television stations in the West Java province have been told not to broadcast songs or video clips depicting lyrics which may be deemed pornographic.

The ban was made by the West Java provincial branch of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID) following calls from the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI), the provincial legislative council (DPRD) and the community.

"As of September this year, we received 263 complaints through various media including text messages, mail, email, telephone calls and other social networking media regarding the contents of TV and radio broadcasts," West Java KPID commissioner Nursyawal was quoted by the English daily, The Jakarta Post, as saying Monday.

Songs considered pornographic include "Mobil Bergoyang" (Rocking Car), "Cinta Satu Malam" (One Night Love), "Hamil Duluan" (Pregnant Out of Wedlock), "Aku Ingin Dilubangi" (I Want to be Perforated) and "Mari Bercinta 2" (Let's Make Love 2).

"Mobil Bergoyang", for example, which starts off with the sound of a girl moaning, contains lyrics describing how bad girls do not need expensive hotels, but only a car, to make love.

The song "Hamil Duluan" describes how an unmarried couple's sexual activity results in the girl getting pregnant.

Nursyawal said the commission was not acting as a censor banning the creation of songs or video clips.

"What we can do is ban them from being broadcast. Even in developed countries such as the US, which has been dubbed the most liberal country, songs and videos containing sexual material are not allowed to be broadcast in public," he said.

Parents have welcomed the ban. Iman Herdiana, 29, a father of two, for example, said he was really disturbed when hearing his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter singing the "Cinta Satu Malam" song.

"It's too vulgar to listen to," he said, adding that his daughter had learned the song from the television and he had to ask his wife to switch to other channels whenever the video was broadcast. - BERNAMA

Kadir launches TV1’s new logo

KUALA LUMPUR: TV1’s new logo was launched last night amid a myriad of colours, complete with fireworks and a sketch by cast of television series Gerak Khas.

The sketch had actors “robbing” the data disc meant for the launch.   After it was retrieved, Information Minister Datuk Paduka Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir launched the event at the KL Tower.   The new logo and tagline Saluran Infotainmen Anda (Your Infotainment Channel) was later beamed on the KL Tower.  Abdul Kadir said the channel would bring viewers to a new broadcasting era as its infotainment concept was to air reliable and precise pieces.

Later at a press conference, he said the 6pm news would have a new format while the primetime Bahasa Malaysia news would feature non-Malay readers.

A new Cantonese series will also be launched while Gerak Khas will be moved from TV2 to TV1.
